Edition of Five · Numbered
Cut from one hide, so the grain runs true from front to gusset. There is no stiffener inside; the bag holds its shape because the leather is thick enough to. It is finished black through the core, not on the surface, and it will lighten at the corners with use.
It weighs 940 grams[Verify]. You notice that when you lift it off a table. The strap does not adjust. The proportion is the whole point of the thing.

Details
Seam
Saddle-stitched by hand with waxed linen, two needles through one hole. A machine seam unravels when it breaks. This one does not.
Clasp
Milled from solid brass, then brushed. It is heavier than it needs to be, and it closes with a sound you can hear across a room.
Hand
Short at the shoulder, or in the hand.
The Atelier
One Object
at a Time
SHIKOLO began with a refusal: not to make a collection.[Verify] One object is designed, one object is made, and when the edition closes the pattern is put away. There is no second run and no seasonal version in a different colour.
Each piece is cut and stitched by one maker in a workshop outside Florence[Verify], from hides bought a few at a time. Five is not a marketing number. It is how many that maker can finish in a year without hurrying.[Verify]
SHIKOLO is the first.
